During this retreat, you will experience the history of Flight 93 and visit the
beautiful Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. You will be engaged with top business leaders who will share their leadership experiences with you. You have

HALO has gathered gently used or new items and passed them on to people in need throughout the years.  We bring in local schools to help sort, pack and distribute donations to people or other non-profits that need them. 

When you have lost it all, or never had these things to begin with, these "basic" items make a major difference. Why? Because it's hard to open a can from a food bank without a can opener.

Student Leaders from Archbishop Hoban High School teamed up with HALO to help Veterans in our community. A flower sale was held during lunch periods to raise funds for the veterans that are living in Valor Home. The funds will buy supplies that the veterans need now and when they get permanent housing.

Disaster Relief

When a natural disaster strikes, the focus of our nation is riveted on providing help and assistance to those impacted. The HALO Foundation of Akron, ( Hope Always Lives On) respects the first responders and major relief agencies immediately on the scene. Our effort focuses on finding the segments of communities who still need significant aid several months later. We do this by working with our student leaders from over 25 area school, to collect and purchase needed materials; to help those impacted rebuild their lives. 
– We negotiate with benevolent suppliers who will both allow students to purchase items wholesale and/or match their donation in product 
– We coordinate transportation of all items, collected and purchased to a designated location. 
– On “Delivery Day” some of our Student Leaders may be transported to the area to work with local students and the military to receive  and distribute the goods.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year, the HALO Foundation awards two (2) different scholarships to reward the talents of those students who best supported HALO’s mission through their work within communities that are in need.

Jane Carl Servant Leader Scholarship

Each year, the HALO Foundation awards a scholarship to one person among our Student LEADRs (Leadership Education And Development Retreat) who most exemplifies the character traits demonstrated by the Heroes of Flight 93. Our dear friend, Jane Carl, passed away in 2020. We created this scholarship in her name as she was a shining example of one who elevated the Heroes of Flight 93 by honoring their legacy with countless volunteer hours.

General Donn A. Starry  Leadership Scholarship

The General Donn A. Starry Leadership Scholarship is awarded to a student who has displayed the character traits that General Starry exemplified throughout his life: Leadership, Service, and Patriotism.
